Ornament Nouveau

Michiel Holthinrichs

The birth of the first Dutch watch manufacture. Michiel’s dream since 2017.

From architect to watchmaker

“I want people to experience the emotional sensations that architecture can evoke: architecture on the wrist.”

While studying architecture in Delft, Michiel Holthinrichs got fascinated by the beauty, craftsmanship and symbolic meaning of the ornament. Art Nouveau and early modernist architecture — where the structure of the building itself became the ornament — have always been his great inspiration, which he integrates into every creation he makes.

In 2016 he launched Ornament 1, the world’s first 3D-printed stainless steel watch on the market. From then onwards it was always his dream to create a timepiece where every component is designed and created with that same intention.

First working prototype

Phillips — The Hong Kong Watch Auction: XIX

The very first working prototype ORNAMENT NOUVEAU — a pièce unique made with The Lavish Attic for its 11th anniversary — carried the first Dutch-made, in-house HW-M02 calibre, a photochromic “Eclipse” dial and a 3D-printed grade 5 titanium case. We cherish this moment where bids came in from all over the world for the work we created in our atelier in Delft.
